I did what no woman does, move in February! Despite the cold and snow I realize it put me ahead of schedule. I was forced to purge five closets into one (plus a storage unit). Friends called me crazy. I think I was smart and healthy and entered into an early spring detox. I was left with all my favourite pieces and a clutter free wardrobe but I had to be judgemental and critical with my closest friends; favourite dresses, jackets and shirts and pants.
To help you get tough on your closet it’s important to live in the now. Living in the now means being present with your wardrobe. Eliminate anything you are hesitating on keeping. Behind hesitation and uncertainty is a knowing it isn’t right to have it in your life. Women’s intuition!
So what should you toss?
- Outdated clothing – this can give the perception that you are stuck, hate change and have a hard time moving forward in other areas of your life so toss it.
- Shrunken waistlines and hem lines – having the right fit makes or breaks your image so toss what isn’t picture perfect. Saving on to clothing in hopes you will lose weight to fit into it isn’t a realistic approach. Be kind to yourself and learn to love your body no matter the shape.
- Clothing that isn’t complimentary to your silhouette- associated with shrinkage you likely have items in your closet that are just not that into you as much as you are not into them. If it doesn’t flatter you then it’s time to part ways.
- Toss items that have attachments to old boyfriends. Don’t hold space in your wardrobe for something that isn’t meant to be in your life anymore.
Enjoy the spring wardrobe detox and welcome the extra room to shop new spring clothes!
