Wrinkles and creases in garments are usually quite obvious. Wearing wrinkled clothing sends a less than favorable message to your company, across situations. These are the same details that may deter you from choosing an item because of the efforts needed to return a garment to a more presentable state. Despite what is commonly thought, this process does not have to be too effort-ful, leaving no excuse to forgo wearing the perfect shirt or your favourite pair of pants, and certainly no excuse for walking out in public in crumpled attire.
The Dryer:
Simply place the wrinkled garment into a dryer. Add a half-moistened sock, washcloth, or some small garment in to the dryer, and set the dryer on “air fluff”. Power on for 15-20 minutes. You can add a dryer sheet to prevent static cling and to leave behind a fresh scent.
Shower Steam:
Seal the bathroom (ie. shut windows, block the space under the door). Pull back the shower curtain or open the door and hang the garment on a plastic hanger from either the curtain rod or the shower door. If you are working with pants, use a plastic pant hanger, allowing them to hang straight down. Turn the shower head away from the garment to prevent the clothes from getting wet, and the water on as hot as the shower will allow for. Leave the room while it steams up and remember to close the door behind you. Return in 5-15 minutes. In order not to waste water, this can be done while you are taking a shower. If this is the option you choose, please choose a location to place the garment where it will get steamed out, but not drenched.
Hair Dryer:
Use a hair dryer to iron your clothes. Hang the garment on a hanger and blow dry. Hold the blow dryer an inch or two from the item. Avoid burning your clothes by constantly and slightly moving the stream of air. If your hair dryer has a cold flow, you can use that to help set the clothes, to lessen the re-occurrence of wrinkles. This solution generally works best for cotton items.
Damp Towel:
Lay the article of clothing out on a flat surface; a bed or counter works well. Take a slightly damp towel (may be from a recent bath/shower) and place it directly on top of the article of clothing. Smooth out the garment under the towel with your hands. Repeat 3 or 4 times. This may take a little longer than the other methods (30+ minutes), but should leave your garments relatively wrinkle free. Once the garment is “pressed”, hang it to air dry. Hanging will also keep it free of creases before you put it on.
You can also try wrinkle-releasing spray for garments. A number of brands make such a product including Downy, The Laundress, Wrinkle Wiz, and Dry Cleaner’s Secret. Read all product direction as well as fabric labels on garments before use. Generally, spray this product onto fabric, and simply “stretch” wrinkles out.
