A leap of faith involves believing in something that is not easily believed and in taking a leap of faith you are required you to bet on yourself. Betting on yourself can be hard, we all have doubts and fears. This is why blindly trusting yourself and acting on your strong conviction that you not only want to alter the path your life is taking, but you have the ability to do so is so rare. Taking a leap of faith is scary. But in taking that leap you can discover incredible things about yourself and the world, and grow as a person.
Why Is It So Scary?
Change is always scary. When you actively change a part of your life, whether it’s relationships, career, or any major life routine there is a risk that things won’t work out. Just because you’ve committed to changing things doesn’t mean that when you act on it this new change will be for the better. How will this change affect you? Will you be happier? Will you feel fulfilled? There are so many variables and many unknowns, and living a life pursuing variables and unknowns is scary. But sometimes the fear is worth it, the risk is worth it, and diving into those unknowns can feel rewarding.
It will be interesting: Trying Something New
To Take A Leap Of Faith You need to have:
A very strong conviction that you want to alter your current path. You can’t partially hope for things to change you have to actively be ‘all in’ with your commitment. You have to have a strong trust in yourself and who you want to be, what you want to do, and where you will take yourself. You can never be certain that it will work out the way you envision, so it’s normal to have doubts. If you didn’t doubt or question what you were doing you wouldn’t be taking a leap of faith. But to turn these decisions from little steps to huge leaps you need:
Passion: Your passion acts as your fuel. It is something that a lot of people seek, and you’ve found a vessel to harness your passion, it is the ultimate driving force. Passion can act as the fuel for keeping you motivated and allow your hope to be stronger than your fear. It can force you to jump out of bed in the morning and have the energy to take that leap.
Purpose: Your purpose is your why. Why do you want to change your path? Why are things not serving you right now? Why do you believe actively changing your life is worth the fear. Your purpose is what allows you to believe in yourself more than you doubt yourself
When you can clearly define your purpose and feel passionate enough to give it a strong driving force you start to grow and taking that leap can still be scary, but is also mixed with excitement.
How to make taking a leap of faith a little less scary:
Commit to listening to your inner voice. The one that is telling you that ‘you can do it’, instead of the advice you get from others. Believe that voice and focus on that voice until it is stronger than your doubts. Know that fear is normal. Accept that you will feel it sometimes, but if it feels like you are constantly thinking about the fear convince yourself to stop being afraid of what you don’t know and instead be excited about how much you can know. Stop playing that comparison game with others. Decide to only compare what you are doing now to what you were doing before. And with every success, no matter how small, make sure you celebrate along the way.
So when you think of whatever change that has been on your mind, the change you’ve been afraid to do; decide if you have passion and purpose for it and maybe then you can grab some courage to take a leap of faith.
