My partner and I recently headed to Palm Springs for some fun in the sun. While we initially had a terrifying experience at hotel called The Skylark (there was blood on the bedsheets!), the city has plenty of awesome accommodations. There’s the Saguaro, a colourful refurbished motel turned boutique resort. The Saguaro’s rooms are spacious, and the pool area is always hoppin’ (There’s usually a DJ during the day). The best part is The Saguaro often has amazing deals where rooms are on offer for under $100 American a night. Now you and your boo can travel luxuriously – and affordably!
If you’re a big spender, The Kimpton chain recently built a hotel with an optimal view of the mountains. The rooms are well-appointed, and the rooftop bar is out-of-this-world. The Kimpton has all the amenities you could want, from a relaxing spa to a gorgeous pool. The hotel even boasts complimentary wine-tastings each night. What’s not to like?
What To Do:
Palm Springs has long been popular with the Hollywood crowd. Liberace owned multiple homes in the city, as did Frank Sinatra. Hell, Sonny Bono was once their mayor! Why not check out all that expensive real estate on a Palm Springs Celebrity Tour? You’ll be bussed around the city in an air-conditioned vehicle while being taught about Hollywood history! The tour offers the opportunity to see houses that have belonged to everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Leonardo Dicaprio.
If you and your significant other are outdoorsy, Joshua Tree National Park is situated only forty minutes away. Two and a half times the size of Los Angeles, Joshua Tree is famous for it’s unique rock formations, gorgeous mountain landscapes, and of course, the Joshua Trees for which it is named. Serious hikers be warned, the desert can get quite hot – even in the summer. Please bring lots of water if you’re planning to hike the trails. Let’s hope America’s government shutdown ends soon and Joshua Tree can be reopened safely! Because the park’s sweeping vistas are second to none…

Bill’s Pizza is a veritable institution in Palm Springs. It’s pies are on countless “best pizza” lists, and yet it’s still reasonably priced. The portions are huge, so make sure to go hungry! You and your partner might even be able to share a single pizza.
If you’re seeking fancier fare, you’ll find upscale continental food at Miro’s Restaurant. You can favour crispy duck and shrimp scampi on its legendary patio. Remember to bring your credit card, because the menu is delicious but pricey!
