Have you ever wondered why finding that special someone can feel like an impossible treasure hunt? By nature, a treasure is hard to find. Otherwise it wouldn’t be a treasure right? So my question is, how do we make our treasure easier to find?

We all have great qualities that are desperately being sought after by that special someone. Unfortunately we don’t always make it so easy for our inner beauty, our treasure, the real substance that can lead to a long lasting connection, to be discovered.

To give yourself the best chance at a love match you need to start with your looks. Sounds vain but let’s face it, we’re all visual beings. Looking good matters. But don’t worry if you weren’t a born descendant of Adonis. There is beauty in all shapes and sizes. All you need to do is present yourself in the best light. Here are some key things that will make a big difference in your first impression and draw your potential soul-mate closer.

Overall hygiene is very important. Men, make sure your facial hair is shaved and under control. Trim those unsightly nose hairs. Style your hair, but go easy on the product. Everything good has the potential to be bad. Keep your nails short and clean. Brush your teeth and smell good.

Women, the same applies to you. Do your nails and feet. Your potential mate will notice these things. Brushed hair, a touch of makeup and a light sweet scent is hot. But careful not to overdo any of these things. Hairspray and heavy makeup are great for theatre performers.

Fashion is another key to attracting your potential mate. Get up to date on the latest fashion trends. Add some colour to your wardrobe. Don’t be afraid to stand out. Most importantly, wear clothing that fits. An expensive designer outfit can look cheap and unflattering if it doesn’t fit you or your shape. A nicely coordinated outfit loses credibility without a nicely polished pair of shoes.

Live healthy and exercise regularly. Aside from the obvious physical and health impacts, exercise is proven to improve mood and boost energy.

All of these things show your mate that you care about yourself. And this means you are capable of caring for them too. More importantly these self-care routines make you feel good about yourself. The reality is when you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you radiate positive energy. If you are radiating positive vibes, it is highly likely people will notice you and want to get to know you. Only then can they have the chance of discovering your inner beauty, your hidden treasure, the key to making a real connection!

    Dear Datechick,
Thank you for taking the time to weigh in. Bad hygiene can most certainly be a turn off for both men and women. I hear it all the time in my circles. I’m glad we are on the same page.
