I think we can all agree that stress can get the better of us. When we get stressed out we may start to fall apart a little bit . . . or is that just me? Should I even bother listing all of the endless things that stress us out? Well, everybody has different ways of coping with their stress and I know that for me, personally, a nice grilled cheese sure helps ease my stress. Oh, but if only it was as simple as a grilled cheese to make all of our stresses go away . . . Here are some tips to impress yourself and get back your stride again after being stuck in a stress-rut.

Skin Care

I guarantee that when you take care of your skin you will feel at least a little bit better. I don’t know why . . . it’s just science. Throw on a face mask a couple of times a week, buy your favourite moisturizer and treat your skin to some love and hydration. You don’t have to take care of your skin for the sole purpose of making it smooth or getting rid of acne, etc. Treat yourself to a DIY spa day (or a luxurious salon facial, if you please) just for the fun of it so that you can take your mind off of whatever is stressing you out. But, as a word of advice from someone who cares, test out your face masks first so that you do not have a bad reaction and get more stressed out.

Nap Time
impress

Sleep is for the weak? Incorrect. Abandon your third coffee for the day and just commit to a good cat nap and take a break from whatever is stressing you out. I know that there is so little time to get everything done and the free time that you do have can be used for thinking about whatever else you have to do. But hey, you need sleep to function so get some ZZZ’s and let yourself rest. I can’t even tell you how many times I have woken up from a good nap or a nice night’s sleep (with unfinished obligations still on my back) and have felt so much more rested and motivated to actually finish what I needed to do. Don’t think of sleeping as being inefficient but, instead, think of it as a kind of reboot for your body and mind.

Reflect
impress

I think that by this point you probably think that I am just telling you to slack off but that is not the case! I swear by taking breaks while I am working or when I am stressed out because it gives me time to relax and think about why I am even stressed out to begin with. Take 15 minutes (or more . . . let’s face it, it will probably be more) and just take a seat and think about why you’re even stressed out because chances are the situation is not as bad as you think it is. If you have read my past articles then you know I love to write stuff down so I am going to suggest to write your problems down and try to reflect on them. The faster you are able to identify your problem and realize that there are solutions, the quicker you will de-stress.

Go Out

Maybe I am telling you to slack off after all, but hey – it is for a good cause. Take a break and go out. Do something that will make you happy whether it be hanging out with some friends, going shopping (retail therapy!) or getting your favourite coffee that is so complicated you made the barista do a double-take. Just do something for you that will take your mind off of your stress and allow yourself to clear your head. Maybe you will have come up with a solution to whatever you are stressed about once you have taken a break from stressing out?

Talk About It
impress

If something is on your mind and it is stressing you out then talk about it with someone. Work out your worries with a friend, a family member or even call a help line or use a crisis text line. There is nothing wrong with telling people about what is bothering you because they can give you another perspective that can ease your worries. You have a support system (and yes, you absolutely do) so use it!
