Q: Hey, Ward.
If I’m wearing a dark grey suit, should my shoes be brown or black?
Davin, New Jersey.

A: Depends upon your shirt and tie. But, while I’m making suggestions, now is a good time to try wearing blue. Brown and black shoes are the reliable standbys, but why go with the flow when you can start a wave? A pair of navy wingtips will help add some life to that dark grey you’re sporting from head to ankle, and a not-quite-matching blue shirt will have you standing out from the rest of the bankers or brokers or boardroom boys. You want some black or brown, save it for your tie or pocket square. Doesn’t matter if they are leather or suede, some blue shoes belong in your closet this year. They also look great with khaki chinos and white jeans. And, although you can do anything, don’t step on the suede ones.
