A pair of shades is the perfect accessory to be cool this summer. This season look for inspiration from the 50’s and 70’s as cat eye and square frames are worn on the runways. Personally I love this season’s animal print Ray Bans but they don’t suit my face shape. Don’t make the mistake of dishing out a pretty penny for something you can’t wear.

Follow these guidelines for the perfect selection:

Round face

Slimming wraparounds and oversize rectangles will help make your face look longer and thinner.

If you pick glasses where the temple connects at the top of the frame it will help create more length in your face. Circular glasses are a big trend this season but avoid these frames because they will make your face look rounder.

Oval Face

This face shape has the advantage of being able to wear many varieties. Oversize squares, aviators and wayfarers (think Ray Ban’s) can help flatter long faces. Avoid small round frames or frames that are too large for your features.

Square Face

The key to flattering a square face is to soften the jaw line. Choose upturned wayfarers, oversized rectangles and cat eye sunglasses. Avoid square shaped and geometric shaped glasses which accentuate the square lines of the face.

Heart Face

This face shape is characteristic of a broader forehead so you want to stay away from frames that have too much emphasis on the top of the frame.  Also avoid classic tear shaped aviators which emphasize a sharp chin. Select styles that are oversized squares and wraparounds.

A woman can never have too many accessories. Try coloured frames, floral and animal prints for every day of the week.
